Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry Osborn and Effie Loag wrote to each other nearly every day they were apart between their engagement on 8 September 1884 and their wedding on 8 July 1886. After finishing his PhD at Johns Hopkins University, Harry was embarking on a career as a professor of biology at Purdue University. Effie remained in New York City, where she taught piano and helped her mother run a boarding house.

“I thought many many times how I should have felt had I found out that you only liked me & didn’t love me.  I believe that would have been worse than uncertainty ten hundred times.” Osborn, Henry 1884-9-10
