Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

With time on his hands, Harry wrote two letters to Effie on Christmas. They covered the gifts that had been exchanged, his new boarding situation (where he hoped to learn more about “hoosiers”), and, of course, his love for her. He had spent Christmas Eve with Professor Barnes and his family and had Christmas dinner with the family of Purdue’s president, Dr. Smart.

“Darling you have magnetized the thing in some way so that it cannot touch me without causing a current of sweet & pleasant thoughts about you to stream through me.” Osborn, Henry 1884-12-25a

“But I must not lose any chance to be with Dr Smart for he is a big card.” Osborn, Henry 1884-12-25b
