Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry’s need for Effie’s letters was the main topic on this day. In his second letter, he demanded that she take time to write him a “good” letter on Sundays, at least. Effie did stray from the topic long enough to provide a detailed description of the reaction of her friend Bessie Stoddart to the news of their engagement.

“Your picture looks as mad as fire at me, and I cant make you look at me as you did two weeks ago and as you did a week ago.” Osborn, Effie 1885-1-8

“I suppose that nothing short of a sworn statement from a physician would convince you that I am in the very best health.” Osborn, Henry 1885-1-8a

“I threw the letter down & came near tearing it up first I was so mad.” Osborn, Henry 1885-1-8b
