Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry wrote about his prospects at Purdue and the effects of a long engagement. In her letter, Effie agreed that being nearer to each other would make the wait easier to bear but she was emphatic about waiting to marry until Harry was able to save money for the inevitable bad luck she would bring with her. She also proposed a plan for his arrival.

“I had a long talk this morning with Dr. Smart on my prospects & his plans. Osborn, Henry 1885-4-20

“It really makes me mad, and I hope you wont take his nasty offer, for it wouldn’t pay at all, & you have too much already.” Osborn, Effie 1885-4-20
