Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry went off on a rant about Remsen Schenck, spurred by a single line in one of Effie’s letters.

Effie’s mother had had a relapse and one of their lodgers had come down with pneumonia. But, Effie was still able to write about the timing of their wedding and the pipe dream of a job at the yet-to-be-established Stanford “College.”

“Confound his impudence & his cheek.” Osborn, Henry 1885-5-2

“It wouldn’t take hardly anything to throw her back, & then nothing to save her from pneumonia, or something worse, for it has such a hold on her that I know he has some dread of its running into consumption.” Osborn, Effie 1885-5-2
