Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry was feeling blue and longing for sweet words from Effie. However, he did find time to write about Misses Elder and Weed, his arrangement with student Orliff Dragoo, and his feelings about his family. You can read Dragoo’s thesis at http://earchives.lib.purdue.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/theses/id/9959/rec/1.

Effie’s letter concentrated on Harry’s reaction to her offer to marry at Christmas.

“I feel Darling that in marrying at all a woman is taking a tremendous step[,] one that is far more serious even than a mans.” Osborn, Henry 1885-10-18

“I ought to learn by experience to keep my mouth shut, or rather to keep my pen quiet, but I cant & never will learn to do either.” Osborn, Effie 1885-10-18
