Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Harry’s first letter was short and covered his private work and his family’s letter-writing. In the second letter, he urged Effie to get vaccinated against small pox, talked of Miss Weed’s seeming mental distress, and recounted interactions with some of the students.

Effie’s first letter was also short and mainly detailed the difficulties that had prevented a longer one. Her second letter told Harry about her day of dreadful lessons, a present from one of her students, and her sister Julia’s illness.

“They don’t enjoy having you lugged into my letters.” Osborn, Henry 1885-11-5a

“I am wading through the fossils in the geological museum & it is a terrible job I can tell you.” Osborn, Henry 1885-11-5b

“I feel like swearing, I am so mad…. Osborn, Effie 1885-11-5a

“Jule was taken very much worse last night than she had been at all.” Osborn, Effie 1885-11-5b
