Henry and Effie Osborn at home

Henry and Effie Osborn

Effie rejoiced that Harry had had the opportunity to hear Emma Nevada sing and then launched into a detailed description of Ada’s wedding (including a list of gifts!). She also told him that she would never tell him her friends’ secrets.

Harry wrote, to start, of a case of measles at Purdue, of the demise of Major the horse, and of an evening of card playing with Mr. Golden. He was feeling bluer when he wrote his second letter. He asked several questions about Effie’s mother’s background to prepare for the possibility of a place opening up for her at Purdue.

“They made the first floor look so lovely, that, well as you know the place, you wouldn’t have recognized it.” Osborn, Effie 1886-1-17

“He was walked down to the woods & shot.” Osborn, Henry 1886-1-17a

“I wish I had never heard of Purdue Univ. Osborn, Henry 1886-1-17b
