HLO drawing Wabash ferry

Harry’s drawing of the Wabash ferry

Harry wrote in his first letter about going to a party at Professor Thompson’s house, where the only woman he felt an interest in was Judge Coffroth’s wife (http://www.ingenweb.org/intippecanoe/Bio_JRCoffroth.html). He complained that Effie and his family had ignored his drawing of the ferry on the Wabash River (see his letter of 12 April). As we also ignored it in favor of his drawing of the springtail, we have included it today.

His second letter referred back to previous correspondence about Effie’s mother and the missing postmarks. He also let Effie know that Purdue’s board had met but he hadn’t heard its decision about him.

“Am I old enough to be old?” Osborn, Henry 1885-4-25a

“I have read the letter all thro’ several times & I somehow feel that for the time you thought that I was hard & not sufficiently thoughtful for you & selfish but Darling I wasn’t really any of these.” Osborn, Henry 1885-4-25b
